Michelle Hermes is a program associate in the Geostrategy and Risk team at the German Marshall Fund of the United States. Her research interests include climate, cyber, and space policy, and questions of strategic autonomy. She is also a member of the Space Power and Applied Research Consortium at Flinders University, engaged in studying the social, political, and strategic impact of space on people’s lives. She previously worked at the European Space Policy Institute (ESPI) on a variety of projects, focusing on policy analysis of space-derived data in European climate policy. She was also previously employed at the NASA Langley Research Center Legislative Affairs Office in Hampton, Virginia, USA. Michelle studied Government and German Studies at the College of William & Mary in Virginia, USA, and Political Sciences at the University of Vienna in Vienna, Austria.
